As we enter February, the Visalia Chamber of Commerce looks forward to growth and new beginnings for our members, Visalia and region.
In December last year, we announced that Southwest Airlines intended to bring service to Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) in 2021. Our chamber was honored to be invited by FAT in November to represent the South Valley (Tulare, Kings and Kern counties) in a meeting with Southwest Airlines to share insights on the region. For Visalia Chamber President/CEO Gail Zurek, it was exciting and an honor to be the only non-Fresno person in the room. Our region’s economic vitality, tourism assets and the role that Southwest Airlines could play in each area was discussed. The year 2020 was hard, but news such as this certainly is a bright spot for the Visalia Chamber of Commerce, our community and region.
The chamber is proud to announce that our Jr. CEO program is in the process of being licensed and trademarked. With the success and overwhelming positive feedback on the program, registration for the 2021 Spring Jr. CEO program is open. To assist local families and youth with additional learning opportunities, the program is a five-week digital business education course that teaches participants the basics of starting their own company. The spring program will conclude with students setting up their businesses around Visalia such as done for Hot Chocolate day last November. You may find more information at visaliachamber.org/ceo.
As we edge further into a new year, we give thanks. As a champion for local businesses, it’s wonderful to see and hear our name being championed by others. The Visalia Chamber of Commerce greatly appreciates the support of each of our members, supporters and the entire community. We look forward to continuing to be a champion now and in the future.
